New Project: The Aeronauts
The Aeronauts brings the history of aeronautics and meteorology to life through the perspectives of aeronaut Amelia Wren and scientist James Glaisher. They are fictionalized characters based on the historical researchers and explorers who pioneered their fields, risking their own lives for the love of science.
We partnered with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Amazon to create lessons using clips of the film for classrooms from upper elementary through high school. Science lessons explore the weather, layers of the atmosphere, and the physics of hot air balloons, and can be used alongside a STEM design challenge to build a hot air balloon. For Humanities teachers, there are lessons on the history of women in science.
